The Power of God and The Power of Prayer

The Power of Prayer and the Power of God. Did you know that during the Second World War of 1939-1945, The King and Government of Great Britain called the nation to hold seven separate days of prayer?

These national days of prayer were not called because Great Britain was winning the war, but because we were in real danger of being defeated by the German Army.

Everyone knows how to speak to God, it's called Prayer. We pray to God.  But did you know that as a Christian you can learn how to Listen to God.  As Christians we are already connected to God through Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. But God not only listens to our prayers, God wants you to listen to Him. 

In my book - Evidence for God, I have written how I discovered that God could speak to me directly, or through his angels, or through my dreams and visions.  Also, that God could speak to me through the scriptures in the Holy Bible or during times of worship.

I'm sure most people would say it was a miracle to hear from God, and at one time I would have thought the same, but now it is just part of my everyday life with God.

Also in my book I have given lots of different examples of God speaking to me, and how you can learn how to listen to God, for yourself and for others.

But for now I would like to give you just one example of listening to God.

A young man once came to our church and after the service, he asked if he could have healing prayer.  So as usual, three of our healing team sat with this man and we asked him what he would like us to pray for.  He had a bad limp and pain in the same leg.  

While we were praying I asked God to give me a message for the man.  I had never met him before, nor did I know anything about him.

Immediately I had a picture of a sink and the pipes underneath the sink were gleaming silver.  Then God said to me. Ask him if he is a plumber.  Well, I thought, I'm sure he isn't a plumber.  I don't know what a plumber is supposed to look like on a Sunday morning in church!  But I thought he definitely wasn't a plumber.

Anyway, God persisted in telling me to ask him if he was a plumber.  So I said to him - You're not a plumber, are you?

And he said no I'm not. but it's funny you should ask me that, because this week I met a friend I hadn't seen in years, and he was encouraging me to go on a course to train as a plumber. He said I would be very good at it, and I would make lots of money.

So, I told him what God had shown me and said to me, and told him I felt God was encouraging him to become a plumber.

He walked off, pain free and limp free, and greatly encouraged by God to begin his new career.

 Famous Atheist discovers faith in God.

The   front page story is of a famous atheist Ayaan Hirisi Ali, a friend of Richard Dawkins. Ayaan was one of the most outspoken critics of religion, and has changed her mind and now proudly speaks of her new Christian faith in God through Jesus Christ.

She says her new faith is the only way she found relief from “mental suffering” and incessant worries, which she tried to relieve with medication, therapists and psychiatrists, and even alcohol. “None of it worked,” she said. 

“Simple basic prayer and surrender worked… It’s a submission to God’s unconditional love.” Ayaan now attends church every Sunday and is “finding it very beautiful, peaceful and rewarding”.

This is what Ayann experienced and is something that everyone who wants to can experience for themselves. For some people, it can be quite dramatic.

The front page story is of a violent gang member who used a sawn-off shotgun and whose life was transformed by Jesus Christ.

But what was it that helped him break free from a life of violence, crime and wanting to commit murder? What was the turning point?

He was walking through Manchester and seething with rage, looking for the man who assaulted his girlfriend, and he was going to kill him!

On his way he met a man who gave him a leaflet and told him Jesus loved him and Jesus died on the cross for him.

That leaflet and conversation saved a man from being murdered, and began the transformational process in the life of a gun-toting gang member.

This is something that everyone who wants to can experience for themselves. For some people, it can be quite dramatic. 

But for many people even those who were quite happy with life. Even they find a wonderful transformation in and through their lives. As they begin to live their lives, by experiencing the reality and the love of God through Jesus Christ in their lives.

From Junkie to Journalist .

The front page story is of a violent drug dealer and addict who turned his life around and became a journalist, and eventually a pastor of a church.

It was a phone call from a church minister who spoke with him and prayed with him. 

He says that after 13 years of taking every kind of drug, of endless promises to quit, it was a simple prayer on the phone that stopped him from injecting drugs ever again!

But for most of us even if we feel happy with life happy with life. Even we can find a wonderful transformation in and through our lives. As we begin to live our lives, by experiencing the reality and the love of God through Jesus Christ.

Suicidal Addict Set Free - Now Helps Others

The front page story is of a suicidal drug addict who was set free from his addiction and now helps others.

Burt what was it that helped him break free from addiction, from a life he hated, and from wanting to kill himself? What was the turning point?

Well, one day he was passing a church and decided to take a look inside. He noticed a picture of Jesus hanging on a cross, and wondered why did it happen? He knew Jesus was a good guy, so why did he end up on the cross? 

What did it mean? And what did it mean now some 2,000 years later? 

He decided to get some answers, and began going to church, asking questions and started to pray to God. And through this, he began to believe and trust in God.

And from that point, his life began to change dramatically. From a life that to him was worthless and who wanted to die. And transformed into a life worth living through Jesus Christ.

This is something that everyone who wants to can experience for themselves. For some people it can be quite dramatic.

When we live our lives connected to God through Jesus Christ.  God knows who we are, He knows where we are, and He knows exactly what is going on in our life.

As Christians we are called to be disciples of Christ, and we are called to love God with all our heart, mind, soul and strength, and to love our neighbour as ourselves.  We are also called to live in obedience to the teachings of God through Jesus Christ.

We are also called to live and serve God by living in the power and presence of God.  We pray to God, and we expect God to hear and answer our prayers.  God also expects us to be obedient when we listen to God, and the more we learn about God and experience His love in our lives, then the more we want what God wants.

From the time we decide to become a Christian (a disciple of Christ), there begins a transformational process from the person we are, into the person we want to be and what God wants us to be.
