The Ten Commandments and Hell

Do you know any good jokes about the Ten Commandments of God? 

Before I became a Christian I knew a couple of jokes about them and jokes about God and Jesus Christ.

But once I discovered how much God loved me and what God had sacrificed for me, just so I could be sure of my eternal life in heaven after I die. Then, out of my gratitude and respect for God, I stopped making or listening to jokes like that as they were no longer funny to me.

Before God created planet Earth, humans and all forms of life on Earth. God existed in the heavenly realms created by God, along with the angels who God also created (Angels didn’t evolve over billions of years, they were created by God).

The Bible tells us that after God created humankind and gave them authority and power over all the Earth. The chief angel called Lucifer (meaning Light Bearer), Satan, the Devil, wanted it for himself. He devised a plan to fool the humans into offending God and breaking the commandments of God, which Satan knew God would kill them.

But Satan’s plan went further than the extermination of humans, for Satan wanted to be higher than God. Satan wanted all the angels and God to bow down and worship him!

However, God knows all things, and knows the end of time from the beginning of time. God knew of Satan’s evil thoughts and deeds, and Satan’s punishment for breaking the laws (sinning) against God in heaven, was to be immediately cast out of heaven to Earth. 

Surprisingly, Satan had already convinced a large number of angels to be obedient to him rather than God. So they too were also cast out of heaven with Satan.

But their time cast out of heaven is limited, for at the appointed time set by God. Satan and those angels who followed him will be cast into the eternal Lake of Fire. As the Bible tells us.

The Devil who deceived them was cast into the Lake of Fire and Brimstone….and they will be tormented day and night forever. Revelation 20:10.

Just as the moral law of God applied to the angels in heaven, the moral law of God applies to humans on Earth. This moral law of God is called the Ten Commandments of God. god gave these commandments through Moses some 3,400 years ago and they still apply today.

To break a Commandment of God is to sin against God, and the penalty for sin is firstly separation from God and then at the appointed time of God to be cast into the eternal Lake of Fire, which is the Second Death. As the Bible tells us.

12 I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and they opened books. Another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. The dead were judged out of the things which were written in the books, according to their works (sins).

13 The sea gave up the dead who were in it. Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them. They were judged, each one according to his works (sins). 

14 Death and Hades were thrown into the Lake of Fire. This is the Second Death, the Lake of Fire. 15 If anyone's name was not found written in the Book of Life, they were cast into the Lake of Fire. Revelation 20:12-15.

God created the Lake of Fire to burn up the rubbish – Satan and his angels who followed him in rebellion against God. Sadly, it was also created for humans who like those angels live their lives in rebellion against God and the laws of God. This may seem harsh to some people, but when we are in heaven we will thank God for not letting anyone or anything spoil heaven.

Jesus described heaven as paradise (Luke 23:42-43).

In heaven there won't be any graves, hospitals, prisons, ruling elite or poverty-stricken, second-class citizens. No armies, no wars, no sickness disease or death, no oppression, no prejudice, no one living in substandard subhuman conditions.

In heaven there isn’t any slavery, nor malice or thoughts of murder to one another. There isn’t any greed or wanting to have more or wanting to be better than anyone else. 

In heaven the angels don’t hate God or make jokes about God, for they love God.  Angels don’t lie, steal or cheat. They are reverent to God, they don’t want to offend God with anything they think, say or do. 

Their purpose is to love God, and to love to serve God with all their heart, soul, mind and strength, and to love one another as themselves. It is the laws of God and the joyful and respectful obedience of the angels, that make heaven what it is – Paradise.

 As humans our time on planet Earth is a time for our birth growth, and development and preparing us for God’s kingdom of heaven. The evidence to God that we love God is that we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour, and we live our lives in the service of God. This does not mean we are all called to be priests, ministers, monks or nuns, as there are plenty of ways we can serve God. The evidence for God is that we have a reverence for God and the laws of God.

God does not allow us to experience physical death and then allow us to choose if we want to go to heaven or be cast into hell. 

But God gives us the choice right here, right now, here on Earth. 

This is why Jesus Christ came to Earth 2,000 years ago. To provide us with irrefutable evidence for God, and that the history of humankind is unfolding according to the predetermined plan and purpose of God.

Jesus also called the people to repentance, to turn away from their sins against God by living their lives as though they don’t care about God or His laws. And to earnestly desire to live their lives according to the teachings of Jesus Christ – to love god with all our heart, mind, soul and strength, and to love our neighbours as ourselves.

For when we are prepared to do that, we receive the forgiveness of our sins, and the gift of God of eternal life in heaven. We become children of God and citizens of the kingdom of God here on Earth, but heaven is our eternal destiny.
