Some years ago, our graveyard was given over to Calderdale Council. The agreement was that they would cut the grass and keep access to all the graves for visitors. By February 2022 we decided to form a group of volunteers from our church and the community, and do the work ourselves.
We meet every Saturday morning (February to October) from 10am to 12 noon and then have lunch together of homemade soup and bread, plus cakes and biscuits.
If you would like to volunteer, you would be most welcome.
This photo was taken in February 2025, and you can see the difference.
Our graveyard has 2226 graves, and most graves have four residents. So we have over 8,000 residents, the first burial being in 1854 when the church was built.
One gravestone is a memorial to Sergeant Henry Noble, who died at the age of 71 in 1860, and who served through 11 battles in the Napoleonic Wars.
