It means being obedient to the teachings of Christ, and Jesus told us the most important commandment of God. Is that we are to love God with all our heart, mind, soul and strength, and to love one another as ourselves.
The reason we do this is that everyone in Heaven lives their life loving God with all their heart, mind, soul and strength. And our life on Earth is to prepare ourselves for eternal life in Heaven.
1. Read the book – Evidence for God: Prophecies, Miracles and The Power of God. It contains 300 pages of evidence for God, and I have made the book available as an eBook with FREE DOWNLOAD from my website – www.EvidenceForGod.co.uk so you can read it for FREE.
This book will give you the evidence that God does exist, and that the history of humankind has been unfolding according to the predetermined plan and purpose of God.
You will discover the truth, that God is who He says He is, that God has done what He says He has done, and that God will do what He says He will do. For we can always trust in the prophecies and promises of God.
You will learn how to communicate with God through prayer, and through learning how to listen to God. So God can speak to you directly, through His angels, or through your dreams and visions.
You will also discover the closer you draw to God, the more you will experience His love, power, presence, and peace of God in your life.
You will discover that God knows who you are, He knows where you are and what is happening in your life, and God loves and cares about you.
So read the book, it’s a FREE DOWNLOAD!
2. Decide which church you are going to attend this Sunday. Making a decision to go to church every week, demonstrates your willingness to God that you are serious about wanting to be a disciple of Christ.
Also, church is where your new family is – the family of God.
It is where you will make lots of new friends, but more importantly, you will learn how to pray and worship God.
3. Read the Bible. Borrow one from church until you decide which one to buy.
My personal favourite for the past 25 years has been – The Spirit-Filled Life Bible, New King James Version, by Thomas Nelson Publishers. It has a great commentary and references throughout the Bible, which I have found invaluable in study, planning sermons and protection from false teaching.
Don’t begin on the first page of the Bible in Genesis chapter 1, verse 1. Instead, begin with the New Testament, starting with the Gospel of Matthew and reading through to the end of Revelation. Then, when you read Genesis, you should find the Old Testament is more meaningful to you.
4. Your church will run various courses to help you learn more about the Christian faith, and will help you discover ways you can serve God through the church and in your life. Also, in talking to mature Christians, you will discover how some of them have overcome incredible difficulties in their life, and how their faith in Christ has helped them.
5. You will also discover that becoming a Christian means your body becomes a temple of the Holy Spirit of God! How amazing is that?
The work of the Holy Spirit is (with your consent) to help transform your life from what it has been in the past. To living life more like the person of Jesus Christ.
This transformation changes our character to one of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Making us true servants of God here on Earth and preparing us for our eternal life in Heaven.
6. The more you discover about God through Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, the more you will love God.
When I first made the decision to become a Christian, I attended a Church of England church. I found it a bit strange at first, but week by week I began to understand more and more, and enjoy the worship. I began to enjoy the service of Holy Communion, and there was a real sense of reverence as we received the bread and wine, symbols of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ for us. As the scriptures tell us.
For God so loved the world, that He gave His one and only Son Jesus Christ, that whoever believes, trusts and obeys Him, shall not perish in the Second Death Lake of Fire, but have eternal life in Heaven. John 3:16.
7. At some point in your journey with God, you will make a decision to make a commitment to God, to repent, as you feel genuine sorrow for your sins. As you feel a deep desire to live your life in obedience and love towards God through Jesus Christ. And you will be able to know for sure, you can trust in the prophecies and promises of God. Of His gift to you, of eternal life in Heaven.
And while God never promises anyone an easy life on Earth, God does promise to be with you as you face every trial and tribulation. Just as millions of Christians worldwide have testimony of God getting them through every kind of sickness, injury, and trouble. Often leaving them stronger to face the future, and more compassionate and equipped to help others in their hard times.
And it is a real joy to have meaning and purpose in life, as you love God and love to serve God. In preparation for the day you pass through the veil of death and into God’s Kingdom of Heaven.
Yours in Christ
